In September 2019, he founded "Nihongo Online School". Since then, has been teaching Japanese online lessons, with a total of over 1,000 students.
He has designed an individualized curriculum based on student’s needs and study goal. And is conscious of making the classes speech-centered in order to improve students’ speaking skills.
The school asks students to submit homework assignments worth 2 hours per lesson to improve faster. By supporting students with these features, students are able to efficiently improve Japanese language skills.
Q1.Could you tell us what inspired you to start learning Japanese? Also, what challenges did you face in studying Japanese before joining Nihongo Online School?

I started learning Japanese because I was visiting Japan for the first time and wanted to make sure I knew enough Japanese to get around. After my trip, I decided to continue my studies. I am a 5th generation Japanese-American and so a lot of the culture has been lost. I realized learning Japanese is such a great way to reconnect with my culture and understand my family better!
I have tried to learn Japanese in the past but it was unsuccessful. Online schools and apps never really helped me. I was always missing the motivation and the conversational aspect. I took a college course but nothing was as helpful as the Nihongo Online School!
Q2. There are many online Japanese schools available. What made you decide to study with Nihongo Online School?

I considered a bunch of options but what drew me to Nihongo Online School was the one on one lessons. I work a lot so it is difficult for me to keep up in traditional courses. With the one on one lesson, I was able to go at my own pace and really understand the material prior to moving on. I also loved how Nihongo works with students from all levels!
Q3.Could you share your experience with our online lessons? For example, how do you feel about the lessons, your interactions with teachers, the learning materials, and the overall lesson flow?

I see my incredible teacher, Reiko, twice a week. We are currently basic Japanese. Reiko meets me where I am at, is always super motivating, and explains everything perfectly. We typically start each lesson with reading through the vocabulary, talking about grammar rules, and working through some exercises. In between lessons, I typically spend one hour a day
studying Japanese. This includes 15 minutes of reading practice, 20 minutes of studying vocabulary, and 25 minutes of studying grammar. It is important that you take the time to study outside of the lesson so you can make the most of your time with your teacher.

I would like to take some time to talk about how lovely Reiko is. I have never met anyone as kind, intelligent, professional, and personable as she is. I often find myself laughing until my stomach hurts during lessons. She is an incredible teacher and I feel very grateful to learn from her.
