Q1. Could you tell us the reason you start studying Japanese ? And what problem, issues did you have on studying Japanese before join Nihongo Online School?
First of all, I enjoy studying languages. I’ve studied many different languages so far. Japanese is one of the most interesting languages, and Japanese culture is my favorite. My dream is to live half the time in Japan and half in Kuwait with my family. What I struggle with in studying Japanese was grammar structure and particles. Even if I understand them, sometimes I can’t recall them quickly when speaking
Q2. Could you tell us what made you decide to study Japanese with us compared to other Japanese school teaching online ?
Before choosing this school, I was looking for information on the internet. I wanted a structured course because it’s good to have structure when you’re learning a language. I found different online schools that offered similar programs, so I wondered how to choose the right one. I looked for websites like forums and read some reviews. People shared their experiences in a very unfiltered way—how they managed the courses, interacted with teachers, the timing, the flexibility—and that really helped me understand what each school was like. The Japanese online school had a good reputation, so I decided to contact them. That made the decision-making process very easy.
Q3. Could you tell us about your lesson experience, how to proceed lessons with teachers, your achivement?
It’s so convenient. I can sit on the sofa and study Japanese with a teacher from Japan before or after work. Since I’m a new parent and taking care of my child at home, having lessons online gives me the flexibility to balance both studying and parenting. Sometimes, I even attend lessons while watching my child, of course, not always but being able to do so in my own home is really important. It gives me peace of mind, because right after the lesson, I can immediately take care of my child if needed.
For people with busy schedules or those who can’t easily commute to a physical school, this online format is very suitable. Ms. Yuko-sensei is a wonderful teacher. She’s very understanding and flexible with both the curriculum and schedule, so I really enjoy studying with her. I feel lucky to have such a compassionate and supportive teacher. She also helped me prepare for the exam for the MEXT scholarship. From now on, I’ll continue getting ready for a long-term stay in Japan.
Q3. How did you prepare to pass the exam for MEXT Scholarship?
We had to look at past exams from different exam givers like EJU and even the MEXT website itself. We had about a month, and during that time, we reviewed exams from 2014 to 2019. Thankfully, reviewing those exams was enough to get a good result.
Especially for applying for a MEXT scholarship where you’ll be living and studying in Japan and knowing that you have some Japanese ability really is assuring for the scholarship givers. It shows that you’re prepared. It shows that you have interest in the language.
