Introduction to e-Learning Video Courses by Udemy (Japanese Lessons for N4 and N3 Levels)
2025/01/19
We are pleased to announce that our Japanese Online School has launched an e-learning service for Japanese lessons in response to requests from learners in various countries. This time, we would like to introduce the “JLPT N4 Course” and the “JLPT N3 Course.” We hope this article will be helpful for those considering e-learning Japanese lessons.
Overview of the “JLPT N4 Course” and “JLPT N3 Course”
These video courses are divided into two levels: for those who have passed N5 and are aiming for N4, or for those who have passed N4 and wish to aim for N3. The key feature of these videos is that they are designed in the style of Japanese language school classes, intentionally excluding subtitles or translations. The instructors speak entirely in Japanese, using vocabulary and grammar that someone who has passed N5 can understand.
Learners are required to study Japanese entirely in Japanese. However, by the time they complete this course, they will be able to understand explanations in Japanese simply by listening.

Flow of the E-learning Course
Here’s a brief overview of the course structure. All videos follow the flow of introducing new sentence patterns → explaining connections and meanings of sentence patterns → practice. In a single lesson, learners can study 2-3 sentence patterns.
First, the introduction presents commonly used situations and clearly explains the sentence patterns, with 2-4 examples. Next, in the explanation of connections and meanings, verbs, adjectives, and usage contexts are explained through clear everyday conversational phrases. Finally, learners engage in output practice, focusing on review points and common errors made by non-native speakers.

Three Key Differences from Other Japanese Learning Videos
1. Direct Method Designed for Upper Beginner Learners (N5 → N4, N4 → N3)
The course is developed entirely using the direct method to cater to upper beginner learners. Compared to explanations in English or subtitles (in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.), this method significantly enhances listening and speaking skills.
Direct Method: A teaching method commonly used in Japanese language schools, where explanations are provided in Japanese rather than the learner’s native language, and subtitles are not used in videos. This method helps learners consciously listen to and understand Japanese, yielding better results in acquiring listening and speaking skills.
2. Explanations Using Previously Learned Vocabulary and Grammar
The course uses previously learned vocabulary and grammar to make explanations easy to understand. This allows beginner Japanese learners to naturally develop the ability to understand Japanese in Japanese at their current language level, which sets this course apart from others.
3. Clear, Engaging, and Motivating Videos
The videos incorporate the benefits of face-to-face classes, with instructors directly appearing on screen and speaking to learners. By creating an environment as close as possible to an in-person class, the videos help learners maintain their motivation. Special emphasis is placed on introducing sentence patterns to ensure learners understand the fundamental concept of “when to use this Japanese.” This makes the videos clear, enjoyable, and engaging.
E-learning User Interface
Videos can be accessed via the website. There is no need to download any special applications; learning is possible anytime, as long as there is an internet connection.

Retaining Learning Content with Comprehension Checks
Learners can take comprehension check tests on the web interface. These tests are available for each lesson and ensure that learning doesn’t end with just watching the videos. The process of watching the lecture → taking comprehension checks promotes the retention of learning content.

Tracking Progress for Administrators
Administrators can monitor the progress of each learner. Key monitoring items include lecture completion progress and proficiency based on comprehension test results for each learner.
