This usage expresses the desire of the speaker when he/she does something.

①V[ます-form] たい I want to do …

The plain form’s sentence pattern is “V [ます- form]たい”.

いく (to go) → いきたい (I want to go)

のむ (to drink) → のみたい (I want to drink)

たべる (to eat) → たべたい (I want to eat)

②I want Noun : Noun がほしい

Here is some examples.

Naniwo tabetai desuka?

What do you want to eat?

A:すしをたべたいです! 

Sushi wo tabetai desu.

I want to eat sushi!

Q:なにをのみたいですか?

Naniwo nomitai desuka?

What do you want to drink?

A:ジュースをのみたいです! 

Juice wo nomitai desu.

I want to drink a juice!

Q:どんなくつが ほしいですか?

Donnna kutsu ga hoshii desuka?

What shoes do you want?

A:このくつがほしいです。 

Kono kutsu ga hoshii desu.
