Chapter 1 Let’s study 5 very basic grammar part1
Lesson 1～は、～です A is～/isn’t/was/wasn’t
You learn how to explain “~は、~です ＝A is B.. ” in Japanese.
This is very basic grammar in Japanese. You should remember 6 patterns today. (3 patterns for present form, 3 patterns for past form.)
★ Here, we learn the basic Japanese sentence pattern A は B です, or A is B.
★ You can use this sentence pattern to say many different things, including name, age, and occupation.Also, you can use this pattern to talk about other people or objects.
■[Present form of Grammar pattern] 〜です、〜ではありません A is~/isn’t
there are 3 patterns for Present form [現在形＝げんざいけい]
Let’s practice with sample below!
わたしは、アメリカじんです。
Watashiwa, America jin desu.
I am American.
かのじょは、ちゅうごくじんではありません。
Kanojowa, chugokujin dewaarimasen.
She is not Chinese.
■[Past grammar pattern]～は、~でした/ではありませんでした A was~/wasn’t~
there are 3 patterns for Past form [過去形＝かこけい]
Let’s practice with sample below!
かれは、がくせいでした。
Karewa, gakusei deshita.
He was student (before).
かれは、エンジニアではありませんでした。
Karewa, enjinia dewaarimasendeshita.
He was not engineer (before).
★Let’s exercise
きょう(あした)は、はれです。
Kyou (ashita) wa, hare desu.
It is sunny today (tomorrow).
・あさっては、くもりです。
Asattewa,kumori desu.
It will be cloudy the day after tomorrow.
・きのうは、あめでした。
Kinouwa,ame deshita.
It was rainy yesterday.
・おとといは、くもりでした。
Ototoiwa, kumori deshita.
It was rainy the day before yesterday.
・きょう(あした、あさって)は、しごとです。
Kyou(ashita,asatte)wa, shigoto desu.
I have a work today (tomorrow, the day after tomorrow).
・きのう(おととい) は、やすみでした。
Kinou(Ototoi)wa, yasumi deshita.
It was day off yesterday (the day before yesterday).
