[Basic Post Particles] Lesson 10-11 Comparison〜より、 From A to B ～から/まで

In September 2019, he founded "Nihongo Online School". Since then, has been teaching Japanese online lessons, with a total of over 1,000 students.
He has designed an individualized curriculum based on student’s needs and study goal. And is conscious of making the classes speech-centered in order to improve students’ speaking skills.
The school asks students to submit homework assignments worth 2 hours per lesson to improve faster. By supporting students with these features, students are able to efficiently improve Japanese language skills.
Lesson 10～より Criteria for Comparison
Make comparisons in Japanese using より (yori) andほうが (hō ga).
Usages: criteria for comparison
X>Y X is larger than Y: XはYより
＝Xのほうが
アメリカは にほん より おおきいです。
＝アメリカのほうが、おおきいです。
Here are some examples.
★Let’s exercise
スカイツリーは、とうきょうタワーより、たかいです。(Skytree and tower of Tokyo both located in Tokyo.)
Skytreewa, toukyou tower yori, takaidesu.
Skytree is higher than Tokyo tower.
=スカイツリーのほうが、たかいです。Skytree nohouga, takaidesu.
エベレストは、ふじさんよりたかいです。
Mt.Evelest is higher than Mt.Fuji.
Evelest wa Fujisan yori, takaidesu.
=エベレストのほうが、たかいです。Evelest nohouga, takaidesu.
(Mt.Fuji is highest mountain in Japan)
しんかんせんは、でんしゃよりはやいです。
Shinkansen wa densha yori hayaidesu.
Bullet train is faster than normal train.
=しんかんせんのほうが、はやいです。Shinkansen nohouga hayaidesu.
Lesson 11～から/まで From A to B
から (kara) is similar to “from“. まで (made) is similar to “until“, “(up) to“, or “as far as“. まで (made) and から (kara)are often used in the same sentence to describe a route or time between A and B.
You learn how to explain “〜から＝from〜、〜まで、to〜” in Japanese.
✅ 〜から〜まで from A to B
★[から、まで]
Usages:
~から：starting point (such as time, location)
~まで：end point (such as time, location)
sample: あさから、よる8じ まで はたらきます。 I work from morning to 8PM evening.
いえから、かいしゃ まで あるいていきます。I walk to company from my house.
Japanese also use this grammar…
*time までに V
This indicates completing something within a set timeframe. It literally means “by”.
sample: よる11じ までに ねます。

Q:なんじからなんじまではたらきますか?
nanji kara nanji made hatarakimasuka?
What hours do you work?
A:わたしは、9じから5じまではたらきます。
(=しごと をします。)
watashiwa, kuji kara goji made hatarakimasu.(shigoto wo shimasu.)
I work from 9am to 5pm.
Q:ぎんこうは、なんじからなんじまでやっていますか？
Ginkouwa nanji kara nanji made yatteimasuka?
What hours is the bank open?
A:ぎんこうは、ごぜん9じからごご3じまでやっています。
Ginkouwa gozen kuji kara gogo sanji made yatteimasu.
Bank open from 9am to 3pm.
Q:いえからかいしゃまで、どうやっていきますか？
Ie kara kaisha made, douyatte ikimasuka?
How do you go to company from your house?
A:いえからかいしゃまで、じてんしゃでいきます。
Ie kara kaisha made jitensya de ikimasu.
I go to company from my house by bike.
Q:にほんからアメリカまでなんじかんかかりますか？
Nihon kara America made nanjikan kakarimasuka?
How long does it take from Japan to America?
A:にほんからアメリカまでは、１５じかんかかります。
Nihon kara America made jugo jikan kakarimasu.
It takes 15hours from Japan to America.
